The Joye 510 from eSmokerOnline
An Illustrated Guide

by DonDaBoomVape of Electronic Cigarette and Vapers Forums

You may have heard that the Joye 510 is the most effective electronic cigarette ever made and, because of that, is the most popular (among those in the know). Well, you heard right!

But what is a “Joye 510”? Why is it so special? What should you order to make it work? And how do you use this marvelous alternative to tobacco cigarettes?

Perhaps you are in the process of deciding which of countless models will become your first e-cig. Or maybe you already are a “vaper” and have been using a device that is not all you hoped it would be. Well, you’ve come to the right place – eSmokerOnline and its proprietor extraordinaire, Steve (“The Rain Man” on the Electronic Cigarette Forum), is one of the best American suppliers of the Joye 510 (and other fine e-cigarette products and accessories) … and this Guide is where all secrets will be revealed!

[What is presented here assumes that you know what in the world a electronic cigarette is (and are familiar with such terms as e-liquid, vapor, and throat hit) and why it is so fantastic. If you don’t, see my Wonderful World of Vaping Illustrated Guide on Vapers Forum.]

What is a Joye 510?

The Joye 510 is a “Mini” class e-cig, i.e., shorter than a “Penstyle” (second from the top of this photo) but longer than a regular cigarette-sized “Super-Mini” (on the very bottom of the photo). It is what many of us find to be the greatest balance between performance and ease of use.

Steve carries the Joye 510 in a variety of colors: stainless steel, white, red, black, blue, copper, titanium

…and even pink.

A Three-Piece E-cig

Like most electronic cigarettes, the Joye 510 has three components, illustrated in this photo:

a. The cartridge (or cart) contains the porous material that absorbs the e-liquid. In the 510, the cartridge and mouthpiece are integrated and can be either flat (“whistle-tip”) or round, both of which are sold by eSmokerOnline.

b. The  most important part of the 510 is its atomizer (or atty). This is what takes the e-liquid from the cartridge and magically transforms it into the vapor, flavor, and throat hit talked about in the next section; and it does so more effectively than almost every other e-cigaretteon the market today. As shown in the photo on the right, the Joye 510 atomizer is not exposed, sitting inside a tube, allowing you non-messy dripping (an alternative to refilling carts) and delivery of a smooth inhalation experience.

c. The battery (or batt) of course, powers the atomizer. Just how reliably it does we’ll describe soon. Notice the button on the side. That means it is a manual switch battery, putting total control of the vaping experience in your hands (to your finger or thumb actually).

Why the Joye 510 is Marvelous

The first generation 510 had a lot going for it, but its automatic battery had its problems: if you looked at it the wrong way, it would activate. [It wasn’t quite that bad; sight wouldn’t turn it on, but sound and movement would.] You’d take it to a club and people would ask you: What’s that flashing thing in your pocket?

So Joyetech came out with the manual battery version, one of the first electronic cigarettes to do so; and it was (and continues to be) an instant hit. This is the version that everyone thinks of (and that Steve sells) when they talk about the Joye 510. And it takes us to.....

more

1. This manual switch, and how well it is implemented, is just one of the Joye 510’s terrific qualities. The button on the side of the unit puts you (rather than random forces) in the drivers seat. It’s placed in just the right position for pressing with your thumb (or forefinger if you prefer) when holding the ecig with your fingers. And that button protrudes out (about 1/8”) just the perfect amount for easy pressing – engaging and disengaging the battery without guesswork – each and every time.

[You’d have to have tried the buttons (as I have) on the manual switch batteries of other models (e.g., DSE801 and DSE901) that came out after the 510 manual to really appreciate this. Some of them are simply terrible and get stuck inside the battery housing, fall out on the floor and others are so recessed you’re not really sure if the battery is engaged or not.]

2. Since the Joye 510 battery is activated by the press of a button rather than drawing air through the atomizer, the battery can be sealed. This prevents e-liquid from leaking into the battery and ruining it – a dripper’s paradise!

[NOTE: If you look carefully at the previous picture of the 510 and 801 manual batteries, you’ll see that the version of the Joye 510 battery shown was unsealed. Steve only sells the sealed version, shown  above.]

3. The size and light weight are just about perfect for me … and for the thousands of others who have fallen in love with the 510. At 112 mm, the Joye 510 is not that much longer than a 100s analog cigarette (and a lot shorter than a 155 mm penstyle), but it is long enough to hold securely when pressing the manual switch button. It is lighter in weight than some of the other units in the mini class, e.g., the KR808D-1 or DSE901. The more I use it, the more I appreciate its comfort between my fingers.

[This is a patchwork picture. All but the first model are courtesy of Nikko Daniels.]

4. The vapor production is outstanding! I was shocked by this (pleasantly so). I’m not sure how Joye does it in a device this size. But I don’t need to; I can just savor and appreciate it.

5. The draw and inhalation are smoother than any other device I’ve tried. It feels so light entering my mouth and throat.

The Joye 510 May Not Be For Everyone: The Cons

However, there is no “perfect” e-cigarette (at least for everyone). Some people might prefer a different model (e.g., eSmokerOnline’s KR808D-1 or J-118 or DSE-905). Or you may be like me – enjoying the 510 as one of my personal vaporizers. The following are attributes you might not like:

1. For me*, the throat hit is mild. But I’m used to the intense kick of the KR808D-1 and big battery “mods” like the DSE-905. The 510 has become my “go to” device for my pacifier vaping, i.e., the mellow or non-nicotine vaping between nicotine-hit breaks. Therefore, I’ve been spending more time vaping the 510 than my KR808D-1 or mod. So this attribute may not even belong in a list of “cons.”

* [NOTE: My perception is not typical. Most vapers commend the Joye 510’s throat hit.]

2. Compared to the KR808D-1, for example, the flavor is mellow rather than intense. However, often this is just what I want (you also perhaps) … and I certainly prefer that over the harsher taste of many other e-cig models.

3. There is a price to pay for the relatively small size: frequent recharging of the battery. 510 batteries are 150 mAh (milliamp hours), which, as a non-techie, I don’t try to analyze. I use those ratings comparatively, e.g., that’s 50% more than the 100 mAh rating of a super-mini like the M702 … and about half of the KR808D-1’s 280 mAh. You’ll get more puffs between battery recharges on the 510 than you would on a super-mini, but significantly less than the KR808D-1 or a penstyle. However

More Reasons the Joye 510 is Marvelous: Additional Pros

6. Unlike most, the 510 battery doesn’t gradually peter out, delivering less and less vapor and flavor … it stays strong until it runs out of power and then just stops. Believe me, that is a real advantage. I recharge my KR808D-1 and penstyle batteries when their performance starts becoming mediocre – winding up to be almost as frequently as my Joye 510 batts.

7. The Joye 510 battery recharges very quickly: about a half hour or so – long before your other battery has fainted (and before higher mAh batteries have regained their strength).

8. The 510 was one of the first electronic cigarettes to have a PCC (personal charging case), which charges one of your batteries (and holds an additional atty and three cartridges) while you’re vaping another one. So when that one poops out, you just swap it for the freshly recharged one – even when you are out and about (and away from the battery charger plugged into a USB port or electrical outlet). So every hour or three (depending on how heavily you vape), you open the PCC in your shirt pocket or purse and swap batteries. [Quite similar to removing an analog cigarette from a pack and lighting it.]

510PCCs

Edifred2007 reviews and demonstrates the 510’s PCC (as branded by TECC) here:

9. And, when you are sitting at your computer, you can use a USB Passthrough, which provides a constant charge to the atomizer, so no recharging is required. It looks and feels just like a portable 510, just with a slender cord coming out the end plugged into a USB port on your computer.

10. And you can make your 510 longer (in millimeters and in time between recharges) with a 90 mm, 280 mAh mega battery…

…along with the just released mega PCC to charge it on the go!

Joye 510 MEga PCC

This is what MoobyGhost has to say about the Joye 510:

It all sounds pretty good, right?

What Should I Order?

What you should order will depend on your budget, your lifestyle, and whether this is your very first e-cig or you already have general vaping supplies.

The Curious but Hesitant Smoker

If you have never used an electronic cigarette before and would like to sample it very inexpensively, eSmokerOnline offers the $9.99 Q-cig 510 Disposable, containing one complete e-cig, one blank and three prefilled cartridges (USA Mix 24mg strength), and a USB charger (to charge the battery a few times with a USB port on your computer).

The battery (automatic, not manual) will recharge at least 3-5 times and has been known to charge many more times than this. The Q-cig is not a Joye 510, although the atomizer and battery can be used with the Joye 510; the USB charger cannot. When the battery dies out, you can still use the atomizer as a backup for your Joye 510 as well as the cartridges. However the draw will be harder (the Q-cig has 1 hole on the side of the atomizer opposed to two). Being a disposable, eSmokerOnline offers a no warranty on this product. [NOTE: Steve does offer a 30 day warranty on the Joye 510 electronic cigarette.] I highly recommend purchasing an extra bottle of e-liquid (described in the next category) with this unit.

The Q-cig might also make a great gift for a smoker friend, whom you’d like to introduce to vaping. However, neither Steve nor I consider this a full “starter kit” to launch your Joye 510 vaping voyage. For that, turn to…

The Minimum Order for Any Vaper

Hardware:
eSmokerOnline’s $55 Joye 510 Starter Kits contain all you need to get rolling … and (by adding e-liquid to your order) continue vaping for many weeks or months.

Each kit includes:

  • Five cartridges – prefilled with high strength Marlboro flavor.

  • One wall charger – for bringing pooped out batteries back to life.

  • An illustrated instruction manual – it’s small in size, but comprehensive in basic operating instructions … and written in real English (i.e., not an awkward translation of Chinese).

Those two batteries (fully charged) will keep most vapers going for an evening out … and (if you are an occasional vaper) for a day at work. This will also sustain anyone who has access to a wall socket during the day (to recharge your batteries).

Software: The five prefilled cartridges in the kit will sustain you for only a few days.

For continued vaping, you can order more of those prefilled cartridges ($5 for a five-pack) – black flat-tip (high strength Marlboro flavor) or white round-tip (low strength tobacco flavor).

What I recommend, however, is e-liquid. Buy at least 3045 ml: Either two or three 15-ml bottles ($9 each: 16mg or 24mg nicotine strength) in any of 43 flavors that Steve offers in four categories: Tobacco, Fruit, Candy, Beverage. Pretty good selection, huh!

Or (especially if you are a new vaper) one or more of eSmokerOnline’s Sampler Packs:

·         Tobacco E-liquid Sampler #1: seven 5-ml bottles (24mg strength) for $25: Tobacco, Marlboro, Winston, Benson & Hedges, Mild Seven, French Pipe, and Turkish.

·         Tobacco E-liquid Sampler #2: seven 5-ml bottles (24mg strength) for $25: Camel, Parliament, Hilton, Virginia Blend, Menthol, Lucky Strike, and 555.

·         E-Liquid Fruit sampler pack: nine 5-ml bottles (24mg strength) for $30: Apple, Blueberry, Cherry, Fruit Mix, Grape, Orange, Shaddock, Strawberry, and Watermelon.

The Out and About Vaper

If you are on the go and away from a wall socket or computer USB port for many hours at a stretch, add to the “Minimum” order: the $26 PCC described earlier. Steve offers them in black, blue, red, and silver. This will keep any vaper going for at least a full day and evening. Charge one of your batteries in the PCC while you’re vaping the other and swap as needed, then charge the PCC in your computer’s USB port while you sleep.

And now there is the new $29 mirror finish gold PCC:

The At the Computer Vaper

If you spend much of your time working (or playing) at a computer, you may want to supplement the Starter Kit and e-liquid with a USB Passthrough instead of (or in addition to) the PCC. Let your computer or laptop – or automobile (see below) – power your atomizer and save your batteries for when you stretch your legs or your occasional ventures into the outside world. eSmokerOnline carries them in black, stainless, and white. You saw a photo of the stainless passthrough earlier; here it is in white:

The Road Warrior Vaper

If you spend your day not in an office or at home, but in your car or truck, you’ll want the “Minimum” order and the PCC and/or USB Passthrough plus the $7 car USB charger (1.0 Amp).

Since you don’t smoke anymore, you don’t need your car’s cigarette lighter socket to ignite analog cigarettes. Use it with your passthrough … or to charge your PCC … or even one of your batteries, using the $8 USB chargerOR the $8 car charging adapter (with the wall charge that comes with your kit).

The former Boy Scout / Girl Scout Vaper

[Clarification: Notice I said ‘former.’ Steve will not sell to current boy and girl scouts.]

It has been a long time since I was a Scout, but I still remember the motto: Be Prepared! If that describes you, I recommend that your initial purchase include all of the following:

  • Any of the previous orders … plus

  • One or more extra $10 atomizers and $13 batteries (while you’re at it, why not choose a different color?)

  • Adapters ($5.50 each) to connect KR808D-1 cartomizers (or DSE901 attys) to your Joye 510 battery … or your 510 atomizer to an 801 penstyle battery … or your 510 atomizer to a 901 battery (or to the 901 connection on the DSE905 described below). Lots of flexibility!

  • Last, but foremost, more juice! The minimum order will keep you going for two to four weeks. In fact, the hardware in the starter kit will likely keep you going for two to four months. What will need to be replenished before then is the e-liquid. Buy an additional 30 – 45 ml: either two or three 15-ml bottles or another sampler pack in a different set of flavors.

The Wilderness Vaper

If you spend your day (or weekends) not in an office, at home, or in a motor vehicle, but out in the wilds (hunting, fishing, camping, lumberjacking, or bird watching), you’ll want the “Minimum” order … and:

Two $17 280 mAh mega batteries (providing almost twice as many puffs per charge as the regular batts) in black, blue, pink, stainless, copper, and purpleand the just released $28 mega PCC (which charges one battery and holds an additional battery and one atomizer).

The I Want It All Vaper

The primary recommendation here is fairly obvious – buy all of the above and even more juice. And get:

·         A $5 E-Cig Holder with clip for carrying one assembled Joye 510 e-cig in your shirt pocket…

·         And/or a $9 black or silver case (to hold one or two batteries, one or two atomizers, and one to three cartridges).
