Joye 510 Guide
The Joye 510 from eSmokerOnline
An Illustrated Guide
by DonDaBoomVape of Electronic Cigarette and Vapers Forums
You may have heard that the Joye 510 is the most effective electronic cigarette ever made and, because of that, is the most popular (among those in the know). Well, you heard right!
But what is a “Joye 510”? Why is it so special? What should you order to make it work? And how do you use this marvelous alternative to tobacco cigarettes?
Perhaps you are in the process of deciding which of countless models will become your first e-cig. Or maybe you already are a “vaper” and have been using a device that is not all you hoped it would be. Well, you’ve come to the right place – eSmokerOnline and its proprietor extraordinaire, Steve (“The Rain Man” on the Electronic Cigarette Forum), is one of the best American suppliers of the Joye 510 (and other fine e-cigarette products and accessories) … and this Guide is where all secrets will be revealed!
[What is presented here assumes that you know what in the world a electronic cigarette is (and are familiar with such terms as e-liquid, vapor, and throat hit) and why it is so fantastic. If you don’t, see my Wonderful World of Vaping Illustrated Guide on Vapers Forum.]
What is a Joye 510?
The Joye 510 is a “Mini” class e-cig, i.e., shorter than a “Penstyle” (second from the top of this photo) but longer than a regular cigarette-sized “Super-Mini” (on the very bottom of the photo). It is what many of us find to be the greatest balance between performance and ease of use.

Steve carries the Joye 510 in a variety of colors: stainless steel, white, red, black, blue, copper, titanium…

…and even pink.

A Three-Piece E-cig
Like most electronic cigarettes, the Joye 510 has three components, illustrated in this photo:

a. The cartridge (or cart) contains the porous material that absorbs the e-liquid. In the 510, the cartridge and mouthpiece are integrated and can be either flat (“whistle-tip”) or round, both of which are sold by eSmokerOnline.

b. The most important part of the 510 is its atomizer (or atty). This is what takes the e-liquid from the cartridge and magically transforms it into the vapor, flavor, and throat hit talked about in the next section; and it does so more effectively than almost every other e-cigaretteon the market today. As shown in the photo on the right, the Joye 510 atomizer is not exposed, sitting inside a tube, allowing you non-messy dripping (an alternative to refilling carts) and delivery of a smooth inhalation experience.

c. The battery (or batt) of course, powers the atomizer. Just how reliably it does we’ll describe soon. Notice the button on the side. That means it is a manual switch battery, putting total control of the vaping experience in your hands (to your finger or thumb actually).

Why the Joye 510 is Marvelous
The first generation 510 had a lot going for it, but its automatic battery had its problems: if you looked at it the wrong way, it would activate. [It wasn’t quite that bad; sight wouldn’t turn it on, but sound and movement would.] You’d take it to a club and people would ask you: What’s that flashing thing in your pocket?
So Joyetech came out with the manual battery version, one of the first electronic cigarettes to do so; and it was (and continues to be) an instant hit. This is the version that everyone thinks of (and that Steve sells) when they talk about the Joye 510. And it takes us to.....
more
1. This manual switch, and how well it is implemented, is just one of the Joye 510’s terrific qualities. The button on the side of the unit puts you (rather than random forces) in the drivers seat. It’s placed in just the right position for pressing with your thumb (or forefinger if you prefer) when holding the ecig with your fingers. And that button protrudes out (about 1/8”) just the perfect amount for easy pressing – engaging and disengaging the battery without guesswork – each and every time.

[You’d have to have tried the buttons (as I have) on the manual switch batteries of other models (e.g., DSE801 and DSE901) that came out after the 510 manual to really appreciate this. Some of them are simply terrible and get stuck inside the battery housing, fall out on the floor and others are so recessed you’re not really sure if the battery is engaged or not.]
2. Since the Joye 510 battery is activated by the press of a button rather than drawing air through the atomizer, the battery can be sealed. This prevents e-liquid from leaking into the battery and ruining it – a dripper’s paradise!

[NOTE: If you look carefully at the previous picture of the 510 and 801 manual batteries, you’ll see that the version of the Joye 510 battery shown was unsealed. Steve only sells the sealed version, shown above.]
3. The size and light weight are just about perfect for me … and for the thousands of others who have fallen in love with the 510. At 112 mm, the Joye 510 is not that much longer than a 100s analog cigarette (and a lot shorter than a 155 mm penstyle), but it is long enough to hold securely when pressing the manual switch button. It is lighter in weight than some of the other units in the mini class, e.g., the KR808D-1 or DSE901. The more I use it, the more I appreciate its comfort between my fingers.

[This is a patchwork picture. All but the first model are courtesy of Nikko Daniels.]
4. The vapor production is outstanding! I was shocked by this (pleasantly so). I’m not sure how Joye does it in a device this size. But I don’t need to; I can just savor and appreciate it.

5. The draw and inhalation are smoother than any other device I’ve tried. It feels so light entering my mouth and throat.
The Joye 510 May Not Be For Everyone: The Cons
However, there is no “perfect” e-cigarette (at least for everyone). Some people might prefer a different model (e.g., eSmokerOnline’s KR808D-1 or J-118 or DSE-905). Or you may be like me – enjoying the 510 as one of my personal vaporizers. The following are attributes you might not like:
1. For me*, the throat hit is mild. But I’m used to the intense kick of the KR808D-1 and big battery “mods” like the DSE-905. The 510 has become my “go to” device for my pacifier vaping, i.e., the mellow or non-nicotine vaping between nicotine-hit breaks. Therefore, I’ve been spending more time vaping the 510 than my KR808D-1 or mod. So this attribute may not even belong in a list of “cons.”

* [NOTE: My perception is not typical. Most vapers commend the Joye 510’s throat hit.]
2. Compared to the KR808D-1, for example, the flavor is mellow rather than intense. However, often this is just what I want (you also perhaps) … and I certainly prefer that over the harsher taste of many other e-cig models.

3. There is a price to pay for the relatively small size: frequent recharging of the battery. 510 batteries are 150 mAh (milliamp hours), which, as a non-techie, I don’t try to analyze. I use those ratings comparatively, e.g., that’s 50% more than the 100 mAh rating of a super-mini like the M702 … and about half of the KR808D-1’s 280 mAh. You’ll get more puffs between battery recharges on the 510 than you would on a super-mini, but significantly less than the KR808D-1 or a penstyle. However…

More Reasons the Joye 510 is Marvelous: Additional Pros
6. Unlike most, the 510 battery doesn’t gradually peter out, delivering less and less vapor and flavor … it stays strong until it runs out of power and then just stops. Believe me, that is a real advantage. I recharge my KR808D-1 and penstyle batteries when their performance starts becoming mediocre – winding up to be almost as frequently as my Joye 510 batts.

7. The Joye 510 battery recharges very quickly: about a half hour or so – long before your other battery has fainted (and before higher mAh batteries have regained their strength).

8. The 510 was one of the first electronic cigarettes to have a PCC (personal charging case), which charges one of your batteries (and holds an additional atty and three cartridges) while you’re vaping another one. So when that one poops out, you just swap it for the freshly recharged one – even when you are out and about (and away from the battery charger plugged into a USB port or electrical outlet). So every hour or three (depending on how heavily you vape), you open the PCC in your shirt pocket or purse and swap batteries. [Quite similar to removing an analog cigarette from a pack and lighting it.]

Edifred2007 reviews and demonstrates the 510’s PCC (as branded by TECC) here:
9. And, when you are sitting at your computer, you can use a USB Passthrough, which provides a constant charge to the atomizer, so no recharging is required. It looks and feels just like a portable 510, just with a slender cord coming out the end plugged into a USB port on your computer.

10. And you can make your 510 longer (in millimeters and in time between recharges) with a 90 mm, 280 mAh mega battery…

…along with the just released mega PCC to charge it on the go!

This is what MoobyGhost has to say about the Joye 510:
It all sounds pretty good, right?
What Should I Order?
What you should order will depend on your budget, your lifestyle, and whether this is your very first e-cig or you already have general vaping supplies.
The Curious but Hesitant Smoker
If you have never used an electronic cigarette before and would like to sample it very inexpensively, eSmokerOnline offers the $9.99 Q-cig 510 Disposable, containing one complete e-cig, one blank and three prefilled cartridges (USA Mix 24mg strength), and a USB charger (to charge the battery a few times with a USB port on your computer).

The battery (automatic, not manual) will recharge at least 3-5 times and has been known to charge many more times than this. The Q-cig is not a Joye 510, although the atomizer and battery can be used with the Joye 510; the USB charger cannot. When the battery dies out, you can still use the atomizer as a backup for your Joye 510 as well as the cartridges. However the draw will be harder (the Q-cig has 1 hole on the side of the atomizer opposed to two). Being a disposable, eSmokerOnline offers a no warranty on this product. [NOTE: Steve does offer a 30 day warranty on the Joye 510 electronic cigarette.] I highly recommend purchasing an extra bottle of e-liquid (described in the next category) with this unit.
The Q-cig might also make a great gift for a smoker friend, whom you’d like to introduce to vaping. However, neither Steve nor I consider this a full “starter kit” to launch your Joye 510 vaping voyage. For that, turn to…
The Minimum Order for Any Vaper
Hardware: eSmokerOnline’s $55 Joye 510 Starter Kits contain all you need to get rolling … and (by adding e-liquid to your order) continue vaping for many weeks or months.

Each kit includes:
- Two complete e-cigarettes – that is, two manual batteries and two atomizers) in your choice of eight colors: stainless steel, black, pink, red, white, blue, titanium, or copper.

- Five cartridges – prefilled with high strength Marlboro flavor.

- One wall charger – for bringing pooped out batteries back to life.

- An illustrated instruction manual – it’s small in size, but comprehensive in basic operating instructions … and written in real English (i.e., not an awkward translation of Chinese).

Those two batteries (fully charged) will keep most vapers going for an evening out … and (if you are an occasional vaper) for a day at work. This will also sustain anyone who has access to a wall socket during the day (to recharge your batteries).
Software: The five prefilled cartridges in the kit will sustain you for only a few days.
For continued vaping, you can order more of those prefilled cartridges ($5 for a five-pack) – black flat-tip (high strength Marlboro flavor) or white round-tip (low strength tobacco flavor).
What I recommend, however, is e-liquid. Buy at least 30–45 ml: Either two or three 15-ml bottles ($9 each: 16mg or 24mg nicotine strength) in any of 43 flavors that Steve offers in four categories: Tobacco, Fruit, Candy, Beverage. Pretty good selection, huh!

Or (especially if you are a new vaper) one or more of eSmokerOnline’s Sampler Packs:
· Tobacco E-liquid Sampler #1: seven 5-ml bottles (24mg strength) for $25: Tobacco, Marlboro, Winston, Benson & Hedges, Mild Seven, French Pipe, and Turkish.

· Tobacco E-liquid Sampler #2: seven 5-ml bottles (24mg strength) for $25: Camel, Parliament, Hilton, Virginia Blend, Menthol, Lucky Strike, and 555.

· E-Liquid Fruit sampler pack: nine 5-ml bottles (24mg strength) for $30: Apple, Blueberry, Cherry, Fruit Mix, Grape, Orange, Shaddock, Strawberry, and Watermelon.

The Out and About Vaper
If you are on the go and away from a wall socket or computer USB port for many hours at a stretch, add to the “Minimum” order: the $26 PCC described earlier. Steve offers them in black, blue, red, and silver. This will keep any vaper going for at least a full day and evening. Charge one of your batteries in the PCC while you’re vaping the other and swap as needed, then charge the PCC in your computer’s USB port while you sleep.

And now there is the new $29 mirror finish gold PCC:

The At the Computer Vaper
If you spend much of your time working (or playing) at a computer, you may want to supplement the Starter Kit and e-liquid with a USB Passthrough instead of (or in addition to) the PCC. Let your computer or laptop – or automobile (see below) – power your atomizer and save your batteries for when you stretch your legs or your occasional ventures into the outside world. eSmokerOnline carries them in black, stainless, and white. You saw a photo of the stainless passthrough earlier; here it is in white:

The Road Warrior Vaper
If you spend your day not in an office or at home, but in your car or truck, you’ll want the “Minimum” order and the PCC and/or USB Passthrough plus the $7 car USB charger (1.0 Amp).

Since you don’t smoke anymore, you don’t need your car’s cigarette lighter socket to ignite analog cigarettes. Use it with your passthrough … or to charge your PCC … or even one of your batteries, using the $8 USB charger … OR the $8 car charging adapter (with the wall charge that comes with your kit).

The former Boy Scout / Girl Scout Vaper
[Clarification: Notice I said ‘former.’ Steve will not sell to current boy and girl scouts.]
It has been a long time since I was a Scout, but I still remember the motto: Be Prepared! If that describes you, I recommend that your initial purchase include all of the following:
- Any of the previous orders … plus…
- One or more extra $10 atomizers and $13 batteries (while you’re at it, why not choose a different color?)

- Adapters ($5.50 each) to connect KR808D-1 cartomizers (or DSE901 attys) to your Joye 510 battery … or your 510 atomizer to an 801 penstyle battery … or your 510 atomizer to a 901 battery (or to the 901 connection on the DSE905 described below). Lots of flexibility!

- Last, but foremost, more juice! The minimum order will keep you going for two to four weeks. In fact, the hardware in the starter kit will likely keep you going for two to four months. What will need to be replenished before then is the e-liquid. Buy an additional 30 – 45 ml: either two or three 15-ml bottles or another sampler pack in a different set of flavors.

The Wilderness Vaper
If you spend your day (or weekends) not in an office, at home, or in a motor vehicle, but out in the wilds (hunting, fishing, camping, lumberjacking, or bird watching), you’ll want the “Minimum” order … and:
Two $17 280 mAh mega batteries (providing almost twice as many puffs per charge as the regular batts) in black, blue, pink, stainless, copper, and purple … and the just released $28 mega PCC (which charges one battery and holds an additional battery and one atomizer).

The I Want It All Vaper
The primary recommendation here is fairly obvious – buy all of the above and even more juice. And get:
· A $5 E-Cig Holder with clip for carrying one assembled Joye 510 e-cig in your shirt pocket…

· And/or a $9 black or silver case (to hold one or two batteries, one or two atomizers, and one to three cartridges).

D-Day
You’ve done your research, checked your bank balance, and pondered your choices. And now it is time to place your order. Click on the relevant “Add to Cart” buttons, go to your Shopping Cart, review your order and make any last-minute adjustments, and enter a Coupon Code. [Since you’ve gone to the trouble of reading this guide, I’ll tell you the secret code to get 5% off: ECF] Click “Checkout,” fill in all that information (might as well “register” for convenience next time, then “send registration”), Click “Next” to confirm that you know the shipping is free (unless you forgot to order e-liquid and your order is less than $75), enter your credit card information and click “Next” again. Then you take a deep breath and go for it!
What to Do with It
You’ve placed your order and now you wait the requisite 48 to 72 hours (the longest of your life). To help sustain you during this difficult period, remind yourself why you are going through this agony by rereading this guide and/or watching the following video. In the most unique way I’ve ever seen, BigIceDog tells us why he vapes a Joye 510:
Well … the day has arrived! You open your mailbox or (if you ordered a lot of stuff) you hear a knock on your door. Hooray! Steve came through for me! It’s here!

the opening
You tear open the outer mailing envelope or box and the bubble wrap (necessary but #@$% ß that’s the technical term). Inside you see this 2½” white cube plus whatever else you may have ordered. What you want to get your hands on first is that electronic cigarette. DaBoomVape said it came in a white box, but this seems so small.

Curious, you open it up and see a tiny folded black card. Oh, those are the instructions; I’ll look at that later. [OFFICIAL PRONOUNCEMENT: Always read instructions before use!] Yeah, right!

Underneath that card you see:

Whoa! What is this? I thought the 510 was supposed to look kind of like a regular cigarette? This looks like one of those weird box mods that I’ve read about. Don’t panic; that’s just the wall charger. Whew!

Squeezed in next to that you see a black cord. Oh, that must be for the charger.

Underneath that, you see two very small flat white boxes. This is like those nested Chinese boxes! Well, it was made in China, after all.

Inside the bigger box are five small black or white thingies. Oh yes, the cartridges. I’ll need those … but where’s my e-cig? Boy, I sure hope my 510 is in that final and smallest box … somehow!

You open that and see what appear to be three small batteries in plastic wrappers; two of them have the buttons on the side that you read about. Now we’re getting somewhere! But where are the atomizers … and why is there a third battery without a button?

As you remove the plastic wrapping from that third “battery,” it falls apart. Oh my goodness! I broke it already!

But then you realize that, in fact, those are the two atomizers. Aha! Here now are your two complete Joye 510 e-cigs (minus the cartridge/mouthpiece)!

Phew!
Believe it or not, that is exactly how I remember my Joye 510 box opening. Watch GrimmGreen’s experience to see that I was not the only one who was faked out by that little box and what was inside):
After all that, I need a cigarette! No wait, better yet – let me vape this thing!
Battery Charging and Your First Vape
MsT explains the parts of the 510 (guys: it doesn’t have to be pink) and how to recharge it:
Notice that the prices she quotes are for one battery and one atomizer (and separate USB-only charger). However, she does sell some e-liquids in flavors that Steve does not carry, e.g., French Toast, Animal Crackers, Pumpkin Spice Frosted Doughnut, and Butterscotch Caramel Cheesecake. Isn’t that all so … Martha Stewart. [Clarification: I have no reason to believe that MsT has ever been incarcerated.]
You are in conflict: you’ve read that you should charge the batteries for 4 to 8 hours before use, but you’re just dying to try it out. I’ll compromise! Charge one of the batteries like a good little boy or girl and start vaping the other one just a bit. [Or, if you ordered the USB Passthrough, you don’t even have to compromise. Just plug that into a USB port on your computer, follow the instructions for the atomizer and carts, and vape while your batteries are charging.]
MsT showed you how to screw the battery into a USB charger. [You do it the same way with your wall charger.] And you are able to figure out for yourself how to plug the charger into a wall outlet or power strip. Similarly, you really don’t need her help (or mine) to screw the atomizer and other battery together. It’s not rocket science.
And her video reminded you to open up one of the cartridge packets. You see that there is a plastic “condom” on the end (to keep the juice moist). You remove that and put it to the side (you might have a need for it in the future). You push the cartridge into the atomizer. If you have the flat whistle-tip carts, the correct orientation will be obvious (relative to the button). But if you have the round-tip carts, according to eclypse:

[NOTE: The filler in your cartridge is not blue. What’s shown in that photo is the “blue foam mod” described in the Appendix.]
Now the big moment! You stick it in your mouth and puff. Nothing happens.
Oh, that’s right! I forgot to press the button. So you do it again, pressing the button while you inhale. Oh, I felt something there, but not much. And where’s this vapor everybody talks about? Has Steve let me down? Nope.
The problem is not with your new 510; it’s with your drag technique. You’re attempting to do it the same way as you have smoked an analog cigarette: a short, sharp puff directly into your lungs. But an e-cig, although similar in some ways, is not an analog (it’s better, but different). So some brief instruction is in order…
Using his penstyle e-cig (with an automatic battery), joshuajamerson explains and demonstrates what you did wrong and contrasts that with the more effective way to do it:
[NOTE: Since you have a 510 manual battery, you don’t have to worry about that “fine line” he mentions. You just press the button and drag as long as you want.]
One aspect of puffing on an e-cig that he doesn’t mention is the two-phase inhale that most of us use. That long leisurely drag is not directly into your lungs (as with an analog), but into your mouth … and then inhale into your lungs.
Why don’t you give it a try?
That was much better, wasn’t it? Lots of vapor and you really felt it. Oh, you want to go right back and do it again, huh? OK! Have at it for a couple minutes … and start evolving your own puffing/inhaling style!
All right … that’s enough for now. You may have noticed a rather unpleasant taste as you were vaping. Don’t worry; you are about to find out how to take care of that. First, fully charge both of your batteries. Speaking of batteries, if you also purchased a PCC, you should charge that now as well. While all that charging is going on, why don’t you watch this review and demonstration of the 510 PCC by igetcha:
Batteries not fully charged yet? Just as well; we need to learn some…
Basic Operating Procedures
To do that, let’s bring in ECF’s and VF’s Kristin. Her Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Your 510 tutorial provides the foundation for effective continued use of your Joye 510. [I’ll be quoting only brief portions here. I urge you to read it thoroughly: now and several times during the next week or so.] We’ll supplement her wisdom with that of others from the vaping community, who will be joining us by video.
In the Getting Started portion of her tutorial, to get rid of that unpleasant taste, Kristin advises you to:
…blow out your atomizer. The atomizer comes from the factory with a “primer fluid” to keep it moist, but it tastes terrible. [Actually, I don’t think it’s that bad.] Simply place your mouth over the threaded end and blow hard [and steadily] onto a paper towel until no more liquid comes out.
[NOTE: This is the same thing to do if your atomizer ever becomes flooded with too much e-liquid at once.]
There may still be some primer fluid on the atomizer, so drip TWO drops [of e-liquid] directly onto the metal coil in the atomizer, attach the [mouthpiece/cartridge] to the atomizer and then screw the atomizer onto the fully charged battery.
[Then]…take a few puffs into your mouth [but don’t inhale into your lungs] and blow it directly out, to get the liquid flowing into the atomizer….If you continue to taste a burnt/chemical taste, this is the atomizer burning off the primer fluid. Continue to “puff & blow” until the taste diminishes.
From then on you will be able to vape contentedly with that atomizer. After awhile, you’ll notice the flavor, vapor, and/or TH (i.e., throat hit) begin to falter. That means you need to top off your cartridge. In the first half of this video, Dustin (aka “RatInDaHat”) of E-cigReview.com shows us how to do that (using a different model e-cig) and also introduces us to dripping.
As Kristin cautions, “DO NOT OVERFILL. Use the dropper to drip the liquid until it no longer absorbs into the filler. Usually around 15 drops [with a blank cartridge]. If some liquid pools at the top, dab with a paper towel…. drip TWO drops directly onto the metal coil in the atomizer.” And continue vaping.
For more on getting the most out of your e-cig, check out the Appendix further below, explore ECF’s Tips & Tricks forum (and the Experiments with equipment subforum within it) and the Cartridge Mods subforum, as well as Vapers Forum’s FAQ/Troubleshooting subforums.
I bet at least one of your batteries now is fully charged. So…go ahead and apply all you’ve learned and vape! While you are relaxing and vaping, you might enjoy watching the video that Mommy Raesunrae prepared for her son on the overview and use of the Joye 510 and PCC:
Conclusion
There is a lot more you can learn about the fabulous five-ten and how to enjoy it. Refer to the following Appendix; browse the threads in ECF’s 510 Model Specific forum; and search throughout ECF and Vapers Forum. Ask the wise men and women we’ve consulted in this guide (including in the Appendix). Shown below are those we called on the most. [You’ll recognize the guys from their videos. We read the words of Kristin (in the top row) and heard the words, and saw the hands, of MsT (in the lower right).]

As a last resort, you can even ask me! [That “last resort” crack was modest self-deprecation and not meant to discourage you. Actually, I’d love to hear from you! Be forewarned: I am not very technically savvy.]

Appendix
The preceding was all the information that most people can absorb at the beginning of their vaping adventure. What follows are additional tips, tricks, and video tutorials that may be helpful during the days and weeks to come. Peruse them early on and study them if and as you need them.
Basic Maintenance
Electronic cigarette batteries and (especially) atomizers don’t last forever. This includes the 510 (although, in my experience, Joye 510 parts last longer than most other models – after over two months, I’m still on my first set of batts and attys). You can postpone that day of reckoning by performing basic maintenance.
- igetcha demonstrates general cleaning and maintenance of any e-cig:
- MoobyGhost shows us how to clean the atomizer:
- ZigCigs shows us how to clean all the components of the 510:
Optimizing the Cartridge [aka: More Cartridge Information than You Ever Wanted to Know]
Unfortunately, virtually all cartridges right out of the box (not just the 510’s) are not as effective as many of us would like in delivering juice to the atomizer. Most vapers make up for this in one of two ways:
1. Bypassing the cartridge and dripping 2-4 drops of juice directly onto the atomizer. This is the simplest method and requires no advance preparation. Therefore, it is the one lazy Don prefers. I just use the mouthpiece after yanking out the cartridge material. This works very well when sitting at my desk at home. Its downside is that dripping is awkward to do when out and about, especially when driving.
2. Modifying the cartridge filling and/or how you refill it. What follows are the myriad ways to do this.
Topping off the Cartridge
Topping off the cartridge by squirting a few drops on top of the filler material is simple, but the juice doesn’t necessarily soak all the way through. So the inventive members of the vaping community have come up with other techniques (which also can be used when filling a blank cartridge from scratch), including:
- Injection with a syringe. [You should have seen my wife’s expression when I opened a package of supplies containing the syringe. I think she misunderstood where I was going to inject the liquid.] It’s demonstrated by one of my mentors, RitaLee76:
- The straw mod, demonstrated by the video prolific MoobyGhost:
- And the toothpick technique (you can also use a bent paperclip), as demonstrated by John from the Evel Knievel school of driving:
- After a few refillings, the absorbent material in the cartridge becomes gunky. MoobyGhost shows us how to clean the polyfill in a cart and refill it with juice:
But, at some point, you’re going to want to replace that material in the cart, either with the same type of polyfill … or with other material:
- UBRocked demonstrates how to refill cartridges with polyfill and E-Liquid:
- MsT shows us how to refill a cartridge with fluval … and how to clean the atomizer:
- GrimmGreen (along with many other vapers) re-stuffs the cartridge with a teabag of all things:
In that video, he uses a traditional teabag. Even more popular for this is the Pyramid Tea Bag (PTB).
- What recently may have become the most popular material to use is blue foam, described and illustrated in detail in this ECF thread by eclipse … and demonstrated here by VaporHead:
I do sometimes remember my Boy Scout Motto and prepare a few cartridges in advance for use when I’m out in the world. When I do, I’ve applied an adaptation of the blue foam mod using AquaClear reticulated foam recommended by quovadis and Hellen A. Handbasket or Hagen Fluval Foam Inserts recommended by kevbow. [NOTE: The label on the box on the right emphasizes “fluval,” however these are the fluval foam inserts, not the same thing.]

So … was I right? Was that “More Cartridge Information Than You Ever Wanted to Know?”
